Fire Station Design

KSA provided design services to build a new, two-bay fire station for the City of Greenville, Texas. This station will be approximately 4,175 square feet and will be located near the downtown area to improve response times for emergency needs. The station is located on a corner site that allows the apparatus vehicles to return through the back of the building on a less populated street and leave directly out the front for emergency calls. The site will provide public parking on the front of the building with secured parking in the rear for the firefighters.

The station will accommodate two bays for apparatus vehicles. Adjacent to the outside bay will be a utility area that will accommodate gear lockers, a decontamination room, a laundry room, a janitor’s closet and a general storage closet. The opposite side of the bays will accommodate the daily functions of the firefighters. They will be provided with a dorm room, a day room, a workout room and a full size kitchen. The kitchen will accommodate separate pantries for each of the three shifts that man this station. An office is provided for the unit captain and restrooms are provided for both male and female firefighters.

The exterior of the building will make use of durable, low maintenance materials. The exterior veneer will be a mix of masonry and stucco. The overhead bay doors will be insulated with vision panels. All windows will be storefront, tinted windows with low e glazing. The roof will be a standing seam metal roof and a canopy is provided at exterior man doors. Entry finishes will also be durable materials. All walls will make use of high abuse gypsum board and the building will be insulated to exceed minimum energy code requirements. Linoleum will be used in the majority of the spaces while ceramic tile will be used specifically within the restroom areas. Due to the request to include a workout room, a sport flooring material will be installed within this space. For ease of clean up and aesthetics, an epoxy floor system will be installed within the two bay area over the concrete slab.
