Nambe Pueblo NP 101 Road Improvement Study

To address deficiencies of the Pueblo’s most important collector road, Abiel recently completed a Road Improvement Study on NP 101 (Poechunu Poe Rd) for the Nambé Government. The study involved assessing the existing roadway and proposing a set of phased improvements to 1) prolong its useful life, and 2) develop targeted improvements to reconstruct failed elements of the road.

The Pueblo had a very tight schedule to complete this project. They have funding to begin improving the road, but did not have a plan to know where to begin. The road has structural problems, failing culvert crossings, and severe roadside issues that can exacerbate run-off-the-road type collisions. The project also involved physically analyzing 80 culvert crossings to recommend specific upgrades to the structures. We completed a computation of their capacity versus the estimated peak flow.

We teamed with CobbFendley to provide topographic surveying, and utility locating services. Abiel has worked extensively with this highly professional firm. We have found that having the survey and utility location services under one roof saves time and expense.

The entire Study was completed in 105 days, including through the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day holidays. The total cost of the Study did not change from our original proposal, except for a reduction in cost that we offered when some useful topographic information was discovered by the project manager in the Pueblo's files.
