Houston County WCID #1 hired KSA Engineers, Inc. to expand the existing 3.11 MGD Water Treatment Plant to 6.22 MGD. The
expansion consisted of the following major items of construction:
- Construction of 55’ diameter upflow clarifier with tube settlers
- Installation of tube settlers in the existing 55’ diameter upflow clarifier
- Sludge blowdown and lift station for replacement of the existing sludge blow down gravity system
- Rehabilitation of existing filters, which included:
- Removal and storage of existing sand and anthracite media
- Removal of existing gravel and underdrain system
- Installation of Leopold Underdrains to allow dual air scour/water backwash system
- Installation of centrifugal blower and piping for air scour
- Installation of additional sand and anthracite media for compliance to TCEQ regulations
- Installation of filter to waste piping and reconfiguration of existing backwash valves and piping
- Installation of vertical turbine backwash pump with VFD
- Construction of influent raw water valve vault
- Installation of soft starts for existing high service pumps
- Demolition of the existing sedimentation basin
Installation of SCADA controls and SCADA towers at the water treatment plant and raw water pump station
